Last Saturday saw eight tennis players from Tower Hamlets compete in the 2016 London Youth Games. The draw is split into two sections, junior and senior, with each rubber consisting of three fixtures.

First to play was the Tower Hamlets Junior team, made up of Albion Limani, Fahim Amin, Imogen Scott-Gall and Milla Kahl El-Gabry. Things got off to a great start with a 2-1 victory over Redbridge and victory was sealed by a 6-2 win for Fahim Amin and a 6-4 win for the mixed doubles pairing of Albion and Imogen. The always strong Hackney team followed, resulting in a straight 3-0 defeat. The final rubber against Greenwich again ended in defeat and saw the junior team take 4th place in their group.

In the afternoon it was over to the Seniors and Tower Hamlets players Ivaylo Politov, Nasko Politov, Farhana Khatun and Amarachi Iwuagwu. It was a tough afternoon for the Seniors with all rubbers ending in defeat. The level of opposition proved to be a little too strong for our less experienced players. A couple of injuries to Amarachi and Farhana forced their afternoons to end a little prematurely. However, the team left in high spirits and with the determination to improve on their results next year.
