Please see below for specific details.
Tower Hamlets is a vibrant and diverse inner city borough with one of the youngest populations in the UK, 58% of whom live in poverty. Our highly-deprived urban setting brings many challenges but also attracts some of the brightest and most committed staff. The borough has an excellent reputation for tackling challenging circumstances with innovation and improvisation and our young people’s energy, enterprise and talent makes Tower Hamlets an extremely rewarding place to work.
The Tower Hamlets Youth Sport Foundation was the borough’s highly successful School Sport Partnership, now operating as a charity as the result of our schools’ shared ambition to retain a service which continues to increase participation in sport and physical activity, improve opportunities for young people and develop them and their communities through sport.
The Foundation is widely recognised for outstanding practice and we play an essential role in both school and community youth sport. This is represented by our Board of Trustees which includes representation from primary and secondary schools, Tower Hamlets Council, local sports clubs and youth centres, and our corporate partners.
Our child-centred approach to sports development is a core value and we take a bespoke approach towards addressing our schools’ and pupils’ individual needs. Consequently, the networks of Heads of PE, School Primary PE coordinators, club representatives and young people which underpin our Board are essential.
Our strategic management is complimented by a strong delivery element and the numerous full time Development Officers, part time Coaches and coaching companies we employ ensure our impact is significant.
PART TIME CRICKET COACH
Salary: £20-£25 per hour
Contract Type: n/a
Location: Tower Hamlets, London
Hours: Part Time (12 hours per week)
Closing Date: 12/05/17
Interview Date: TBC
Tower Hamlets has seen a huge growth in cricket over recent years thanks to the introduction of a Cricket Development Officer role in 2007. Not only do all borough schools play the game in some form, the creation of a District Cricket programme sees a regular flow of young people into club and representative cricket, many going on to play in county age-group teams or at Premier League level. We enjoy and excellent relationship with the MCC and the levels of participation and success we now experienced are unprecedented. Tower Hamlets regularly ranks as one of the most successful cricketing boroughs in London.
Many of our most talented cricketers have challenging backgrounds and come from some of the most deprived wards in London. As such, our cricket programme is very hands-on and it involves mentoring and pastoral care as much as technical coaching. Girls’ cricket is also extremely under-developed, and 2016-17 has seen us embark on a new way of working – cricket is 1 of 4 sports that are part of a “Focus Sport Programme” which allows a degree of specialisation in borough Primary Schools.
We are now seeking a sessional cricket coach to increase our capacity and work alongside our Cricket Development Officer, who demonstrates the following qualities:
- Qualified to Level 2 standard or above
- An ability to deliver safe, engaging and progressive coaching sessions appropriate to a range of ages
- Experience of coaching young people, both in school and community settings
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Some experience of organising and leading girls’ cricket (desirable)
In return we can provide coaching hours during term time, support with professional development and the opportunity to play a key role in the continued improvement of cricket in Tower Hamlets.
The Foundation also aims to support employees in achieving their own personal goals and although initiative and self-motivation are very important, we are committed to professional development and offer a very supportive environment to work in.
The Tower Hamlets Youth Sport Foundation is committed to the safeguarding of young people and as such all successful applicants will be expected to undergo Enhanced DBS Checks.
