With autumn rapidly approaching, THYSF has looked back over the summer months and the events held during the holidays.
Our Summer Neighbourhood Games and Hub Club Games were both held in August and drew participants from all across Tower Hamlets.
The Locksley Leopards, led by Helen Tang, took first place at the Neighbourhood Games thanks to their all-round strong performance and involvement in as many sports as possible on the day. Spitalfields Storm remained hot on the Leopards’ tails, but had to make do with the silver medal while the Mile End West Menaces took home bronze. Our volunteers and sponsors from the Lloyds Community Programme also had a great day and are already planning their attendance at the next Neighbourhood Games in April – thank you Lloyds! Congratulations to all the teams that took part as well as the Sports Ambassadors and PETAs who worked hard training and recruiting their teams.
The Hub Club Programme is still in it’s first year, with plans for the Winter Games already under-way. So far, the programme has been a great success, with 12-18 year olds from across Tower Hamlets coming together to compete after a period of training in local sports facilities. As in our Spring Hub Club Games, Stepney ran away with the gold, seeing off their main competitors, Bow, by a mere 16 points while Poplar secured third place. Once again, we were impressed by the talent and sportsmanship involved and we’re looking forward to embarking on the Winter Programme.
