Chris Willetts – Foundation Manager
Abdal began working with THYSF in January 2013. His role involves overseeing the school programme and managing all Primary and Secondary School Competitions. Abdal’s coaching background is in football and, before coming to THYSF, he worked as the Football Development Manager for Osmani Trust.
James Ralph – Coaching and Leadership Manager
James joined THYSF in July 2015 having previously managed a Sport England project at the London School of Economics. James has worked in Sports Development for over 8 years in a number of roles in both England and Wales. His role includes managing the PETA programme, supporting the development of Mini Clubs across Tower Hamlets and coordinating a variety of training opportunities for young people within the borough.
Richard Arlett – Clubs and Communities Manager
Richard’s role at the foundation is to provide strategic direction for community sport. This includes the management of initiatives such as community events while also implementing any regional or national initiatives that add value to Tower Hamlets’ community sport. Richard joined THYSF in August 2014 after having worked for 8 years in Sports Development for local authorities in London and Surrey.
Shuhel Malique – PE Curriculum Manager
Shuhel qualified as a Teacher in 2004 and have been teaching in Tower Hamlets since. His sport specialisation is in Hockey and Shuhel has been a key player in promoting hockey in the borough and has helped lead youth teams to win successive Essex Alliance League titles. Alongside his role at THYSF, Shuhel teaches PE and Geography at Sir John Cass Redcoat School and is responsible for developing curricular PE and school sport across Tower Hamlets. He also manages the High Quality PE Team who assist in organising and delivering training for the borough’s schools.
Tallulah Staple – Communications, Fundraising & Administration Manager
Tallulah joined THYSF in August 2014 after graduating from SOAS, where she studied International Development. Tallulah has worked in the education and charity sector for approximately eight years in a variety of fundraising and communications roles at both local and international charities. At THYSF, Tallulah’s role involves providing a strategic approach to the foundation’s communications and funding position.
Coaching and Development Staff
Alain Keith – Gifted and Talents Project Officer
Alain started with THYSF in September 2014 after completing a Masters Degree in Sport and Exercise Science at Manchester Metropolitan University. Alain has experience assisting and supporting international athletes and coaches from various sports. Alain has come from a background of Hockey coaching and has been involved in research with international Hockey coaches. His role is to run the Foundation’s successful Sporting Diamonds programme and support the gifted athletes in the various sports that we offer. Alain is committed to help produce an accessible pathway for pupils in Tower Hamlets to competing in an elite sporting environment.
Albert Ziwa – Basketball Development Officer
Albert began working for the foundation in January 2015 and is the head coach of the Tower Hamlets Basketball Academy. Previously, Albert played basketball in the USA (Wisconsin and Baltimore) which led to playing professional basketball for Worcester Wolves. During his time in Worcester, he graduated with a (Bsc) degree in Sports Science. Albert’s coaching experience ranges from working with beginners to elite players. His goal is to work on developing talent from a young age and providing a pathway for the players to keep developing and fulfil their potential. He is also affiliated and works closely with Reach and Teach basketball organisation in an attempt to increase basketball participation in Tower Hamlets.
Chris Dakin – Badminton Development Officer
Chris has worked for the foundation since 2009, before which he performed as an England Junior International Badminton player. Over the last ten years, Chris has coached in a range of contexts, from schools and colleges to junior national competitors, and has competed against and worked with Olympic, World and European Champions. Alongside his role at THYSF, Chris is the Head Coach at Middlesex Junior Badminton and at Tower Hamlets Badminton Academy; the only affiliated Junior Badminton Club in Tower Hamlets.
Dave Messham – Hockey Development Officer
Jahid Ahmed – Cricket Development Officer
Jahid has been working for THYSF since 2009. Previously, Jahid played professional cricket for Essex County Cricket Club after graduating from the University of East London with a degree in Sports Science (Sports Coaching). Jahid’s role at THYSF involves coaching for District and Borough cricket as well as at Primary and Secondary schools across Tower Hamlets. Jahid also works on developing pathways linking schools and clubs to ease the transition for talented young cricket players.
Lee Murray – Tennis Development Officer
Lee started with THYSF in November 2012. On Saturdays he coaches for Tower Hamlets Tennis to deliver their community and development programmes, which has provided close ties with the local tennis provider. At THYSF, Lee focuses on getting tennis into as many schools as possible; when he joined the Foundation, the sport was still under-represented across the borough. Lee’s goal is to coach the sport in a way that engages children and young people of all abilities sustainably so that teachers can replicate his methods when his delivery period ends.
Mariusz Bajda – Judo Development Officer
Mariusz began working with THYSF in 2006 while also forming the Tower Hamlets Judo Club. Mariusz has a Masters Degree in Physical Education and Sport and has 18 years of international coaching experience in a range of sports including Judo, Gymnastics, Weightlifting and Swimming. In Poland, Mariusz was a National Judo Team Member from 2000-2003.
Megan Brown – Health Programme Officer
Megan began working with THYSF in January 2016. Megan is leading the Active Families project which aims at improving an understanding of health, increasing levels of physical activity, reducing obesity and improving knowledge of borough sporting opportunities amongst parents and families at schools focused on by Tower Hamlets’s National Child Measurement Programme. Megan has a combined 9 years of experience working with at risk children and families across both Australia and the UK.
Reshma joined the Foundation in February 2016. She works part time for THYSF to create sporting opportunities young people with disabilities in Tower Hamlets. Her role includes organising inclusive festivals and competitions, managing the Tower Hamlets London Youth Para Games and Panathlon teams, developing and managing disability sport initiatives. Reshma also works at Phoenix Special School as a PE Teacher.
Rich Kite – Weightlifting (and Strength & Conditioning) Coach
Rich began with THYSF in April 2014. Prior to that Rich studied for a degree at St. Mary’s University in Strength and Conditioning Science where he coached the University Weightlifting Club. During this period, Rich was awarded Coach of the Year for 2014. Rich’s coaching experience ranges from working with beginners through to elite athletes and his students have gone on to win medals at national events.
Scott Vinnicombe – Rugby Development Officer
September 2014 is the beginning of Scott’s seventh year at THYSF. Scott is currently the Youth Chairman at Millwall Rugby Club based on the Isle of Dogs where he oversees the youth programmes and talent identification and Scott currently focuses on coaching Rugby Union. Scott is also a Community Qualified Coach for Harlequins Rugby Club.
