Traditionally being one of the most cross-culturally appealing sports, cricket is extremely popular within Tower Hamlets.
The borough has its very own Cricket Development Officer who oversees the sport, whose work ranges from developing striking and fielding skills with key stage 1 children helping young people to access and be accepted into county academies.
Cricket is played in every Tower Hamlets school and more children here have played kwik cricket at school than any other similar sized borough in the country. There are also Tower Hamlets indoor and outdoor secondary school cups while the very best school cricketers in the borough play games against districts and boroughs all over the country thanks to the incredibly successful Tower Hamlets District Programme provided by The Tower Hamlets Youth Sport Foundation.
The borough also has two fledgling cricket clubs: Victoria Park Cricket Club and the Island Community Cricket Club have both been set up in recent years to cater for the swelling numbers of talented and enthusiastic young cricketers in Tower Hamlets. Both are “Chance to Shine” focus clubs.
