Marion Richardson Primary School’s contribution of Primary PE and Sport Premium funding to the Tower Hamlets Youth Sport Foundation also allows events, programmes and staff to support pupils in accessing sport outside of school.

Below is a brief case study and profile of a Marion Richardson Primary School student who has been supported in this way.

What activities has Shazood taken part in outside of school?

Shazood was selected for the Tower Hamlets Under-11 District Cricket Team

Approximately how many hours of additional provision did this involve?

This year, Shazood has benefitted from approximately 20 hours of training and 50 hours of match-play, including a residential trip to Malvern College in Worcestershire

What achievements were realised through this provision?

Shazood was one of the leading members of the team, regularly making good contributions with bat and ball. As a consequence, his coach has recommended him for a county trial over the coming months.

Furthermore, Shazood has developed a wider circle of friends and has travelled to many new places outside of Tower Hamlets. Teachers noticed an improvement in Shazood’s self-esteem since becoming involved in the district cricket programme.

‘I have really enjoyed being part of the district cricket team. I have played in lots of games and made lots of new friends. It is brilliant that my coach picks me up from home and gives me the equipment to use, otherwise I would not have been able to play cricket.’
